Production AI Reliability

Practical research into AI drift, consistency, monitoring, human review and the systems that help AI remain useful in real-world workflows.

Keeping AI useful after the initial demo

AI can produce an impressive result in a demonstration. The harder question is whether it continues to produce useful, trustworthy and consistent results once real people, real data and real business conditions enter the picture. This research hub explores what happens when AI moves into production: how systems drift, why outputs become inconsistent, how quality can be monitored and where human judgement still matters.

What production AI reliability means

A system can be online and responding successfully while its outputs become less useful, less consistent or less aligned with the job it was designed to support. Reliability includes output consistency, accuracy, relevance, source data, user behaviour, workflow design, human review and governance.

Why AI systems drift

Models, prompts, source documents, integrations, users and expectations can all change. A workflow that worked well in a small pilot may behave differently at scale.

Human review is part of the system

Human review can be a deliberate control in an AI workflow. Define what the system handles, what a person checks, when to escalate and how corrections feed back into the process.

Two related pieces of research explore the problem from complementary angles: Why LLMs drift, and what operator-level prompting can do about it examines practical operator controls, while Quantifying non deterministic drift in large language models reports repeated-run experiments measuring baseline variation. For the working-level version of the same ground see why LLMs drift and what operator-level prompting can do about it, and the wider LLM reliability research it sits in.

From experiment to dependable workflow

Moving AI into day-to-day use means designing the system around the model, not simply connecting an API to an interface. The right solution may be an integration, a custom web application, a structured content system or a combination of these.
