The Love of Tennis — a connected digital product
Live scores, player profiles, tournaments, rivalries and daily news, connected so a fan can follow one question through the product. The x-ray lens reveals the work underneath.
My contribution
Website and app interfaces organised around fan tasks; connected match, player, tournament and news routes; rendering, metadata, internal linking and image performance work; and publishing support with editorial review.
Under the lens
The lens reveals the homepage’s real structure, read from the live page: its landmarks, heading outline, links, images and alt text.
- One H1, with every section heading nested beneath it, including a heading only screen readers hear above the coverage cards
- A labelled “What is on right now” section that screen-reader users can jump straight to
- An AVIF hero image with a separate crop for phones, each preloaded at high priority only on the screen size that uses it
- The latest ten stories published both as plain HTML and as schema.org structured data
Measured
Lighthouse 12.8.2 against the live homepage on 1 October 2026, and the site’s own sitemaps on the same day.
- 100 for accessibility, best practices and SEO on mobile
- 1.7 seconds to show the main content on desktop, with a layout shift score of 0.01
- 315 pages in the sitemap, including 133 player profiles, 94 match pages, 51 news stories and 25 tournaments
What the lens cannot reach
Some of the most useful work lives in the page’s head and the server’s responses.
- Found: server-rendered fallback HTML on every page, structured data for the site and its search box, and split sitemaps for core pages, news and matches
- Fast: art-directed AVIF images, a preloaded font, and hashed scripts and styles cached for a year
- Safe: a Content Security Policy, strict transport security, and camera, microphone and location switched off at the server
